Your choice needs to take into account such factors as device dimensions, image and sound quality, accessories, battery life, and so on. You need to understand which cameras are better suited for a particular purpose.

Therefore, if you are new to the world of vlogging, then I highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with my guide before you begin. Everything is written in a very accessible, non-technical language.

If you already understand what’s what, let’s begin!

Here are the top 10 cameras for YouTube based on a combination of price, quality and popularity.

1. Canon EOS M50 – Best Overall

If this is all new to you, you’re probably wondering what key features a vlogging camera requires. High autofocus speed, compactness, 4K video, long battery life combined are important. However, these features combined with a low price is rare to find.

Yet, I present to you the Canon EOS M50.

This is a unique camera which combines a wide range of features.

Canon released this hybrid DSLR and compact camera and removed some features to reduce the size of the device which meant it succeeded in the seemingly impossible task of placing high quality features in a small sized device.

The camera turned out very compact which for many vloggers, is very important. No need to take an extra bag. It is enough to put it in a jacket and go.

And now it’s worth talking about its functions.

Canon EOS M50 is equipped with a very powerful processor, DIGIC 8. At the time of writing, it is the most modern processor Canon have released. This processor allows the device to shoot video in 4K format (25 frames per second frequency). You can also record in FullHD 50p and HD 120p formats and you can use slow motion with a very good resolution.

Since the camera has a large APS-C matrix, the image will be of very high quality. In dark conditions, the image will still appear, and the colour will be natural.

Not bad for a compact camera, right?

Add to this the opportunity to put cool lenses on the camera and you can already shoot a real Hollywood movie.

However, this is not all.

This model has several other interesting features.

Firstly, the Canon EOS M50 has a modern autofocus system Dual Pixel CMOS AF. It allows you to be guided to an object in a split second. Moreover, such a focus almost never misses.

Tests show that the accuracy of the Canon EOS M50 system is at the highest performance level of speed.

Now you will definitely not miss any detail in your vlog – even in the most difficult situations.

Furthermore, the touch screen can be rotated in any direction, as it is hinged. This is a very useful thing. You can even record your selfies by looking at yourself. Maximum display mobility is a huge advantage of the Canon EOS M50 over competitors.

The Canon EOS M50 can also record time lapse in 4K format. It will be very easy for you to, for example, record the moon moving across the sky at night. It should be noted that such a function is usually only in professional cameras, which are around 5 times more expensive.

Summarizing all the above, you get a truly unique device, which combines a great deal of interesting features.

Design wise, as I said before, the camera is compact; it is very comfortable to hold with one hand.

The body, the control buttons and main elements are made to a very high standard. It is evident that the engineers have tried, tested and developed everything focussing on quality.

Regarding the general use of the camera it is of course, better to buy additional batteries. The battery life of the camera is unfortunately not very long.

It is useful to send video from the EOS M50 to a smartphone / tablet in the process of shooting – Wi-Fi technology is well implemented.

You can also connect an external microphone to record great sound.

All this makes the Canon EOS M50 a very interesting model.

Importantly though, what do the famous YouTubers say about this device?

Let’s see a video in which Peter McKinnon talks about the Canon EOS M50:

As you can see, Peter is very pleased that the camera is compact. He is delighted with its small size is combined with great features.

So, Canon finally got a 4K video camera. And it turned out very cool.

This model though, does have drawbacks.

Fast autofocus does not work when recording at maximum resolution. Instead, a slow focusing system is used.

However, when you watch a finished video, the difference is rarely visible.

Also, as mentioned, the battery life of the device is not the greatest. If you plan to shoot a lot of footage and take a long time, you will have to carry extra batteries with you.

The verdict?

This camera contains a lot of things. Powerful features, 4K video, good control, all in a very compact size.

This model is suitable for all vloggers who need a small device, convenient settings, low price and high-quality replaceable optics, as well as the ability to shoot high quality videos.

2. Canon Powershot GT7 X Mark II – Best Compact Vlog Camera

It’s no secret that many bloggers use the same cameras.

Some famous YouTubers, such as PewDiePie and Roman Atwood, shoot their videos using the compact Canon Powershot G7X.

I will say that personally I think this camera is really cool. But Canon has released an improved model: the G7X Mark II.

Let’s look at the second option in more detail.

How did the company improve upon the previous model?

The Mark II has a DIGIC 7 processor, one of the most powerful on the market for this type of device. And thanks to this processor, the quality of shooting in low light is absurdly good. This is the biggest feature of the PowerShot G7 X Mark II. In addition, Canon saved one more thing that we liked in the previous version; the size and weight- the difference is almost invisible.

What else?

The video quality is great.

The camera records video in Full HD at 60 frames per second. This format allows you to make quality videos which can later be uploaded on to YouTube.

One cool detail – the camera has improved image stabilization; you can shoot moving objects without losing quality.

In short, the G7X Mark II has a much better performance than its predecessor. The image quality has increased significantly. The menu has become more convenient. Most settings can be set right on the screen, if necessary.

Such a device can attract anyone who needs a compact camera for video blogging and travel as it is light and wont attract significant attention.

Speaking about the design of the camera, I immediately paid attention to the folding screen, which can even be turned over. With it, you can not only comfortably watch the recorded video, but also select the autofocus point when shooting.

Many top vloggers also use this camera for their videos (e.g. Zoella, FazeRug etc.).

“Overall a great camera for vlogging, macro shots, holidays and many other occasions” – Alissa (“the daniel life” Youtube channel).

The camera also supports manual control, can record RAW and has WiFi.

Let’s look at an example of shooting in a video blog. How it really looks like in real life:

If you are also interested in the tripod from this video and want the same, then I found it especially for you, it can be found here.

Another new feature on this camera is that it has a rubber grip on the front. This helps not only to hold the camera in your hand, but also to turn it around to record yourself. This is a really good addition that helps prevent slipping, because the camera will not slip as easily as the first model.

Furthermore, the G7X Mark II also comes with the reduction of noise at high ISO values. It also has an additional ISO step (expandable to 25,600). This means that this model is better suited for recording in low light than its predecessor.

Additionally, due to the presence of continuous autofocus, the video image does not jump, and overall it looks very good.

Upgrading the processor has led to a faster launch of the device and an increase in performance.

Finally, an interesting new feature for recording video is interval shooting. So, you won’t need additional hardware or software updates to create this kind of content which is quite popular on YouTube.

And I must say that this model combines insane performance with a gorgeous, compact design.

Now to discuss the disadvantages.

One of the main issues is the short battery life. But you can always charge the device from a portable charger or buy an additional battery.

Also worth noting is that the device does not have a viewfinder. Not the most necessary feature, but for some it will be a disadvantage.

Undoubtedly, there are models much more functional than the Canon G7X Mark II. But you can understand that this device is not the most expensive.

At the same time, the difference in image quality is not too significant. If you are needing a device for everyday shooting of your family, friends, walks and trips, then perhaps it makes no sense to pay more for 4K video and autofocus, since the functions of this device are enough for everyday use.

Overall, the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II is an advanced camera, endowed with many useful features. This device has a super lens and the most powerful processor combined with a very compact size.

In my opinion, this is a very successful model, thanks to its excellent performance and compact body. For those who do not like a big size, there is no doubt in choosing the GT7 X Mark II, which is one of the best cameras for YouTube videos.

3. Panasonic Lumix GH5 – Premium Choice

This camera is perhaps ahead of its time. It has one of the widest range of features on this list.

Full HD 180 FPS video, 6K mode, a huge selection of settings, unique autofocus – this camera is suitable even for professional filmmakers.

It is evident that the company tried extremely hard to make a high calibre camera – and they got good results.

Let’s start by saying that the Panasonic GH5 is, above all, a camera capable of shooting excellent 4K video at 60 frames per second.

However, the GH5 is a mirrorless device. Therefore, you have a good selection of different lenses.

Dual 5-axis stabilization system in the GH5 combines the body and the lens, making the video smooth, without the effect of motion sickness.

As I said earlier, Lumix GH5 shoots crisp, high-quality 4K video at 60p.

However, in Full HD format, the camera can shoot at up to 180 frames per second and produce great slow-mo.

In 6K-mode at a frequency of 30 fps, you can record short videos, which will then be divided into individual pictures with a slightly lower resolution. Interesting, isn’t it?

And although we know that this mode is not useful to everyone, this is a real technical development from Panasonic.

Adding to this, the autofocus uses 225 points- so you can forget about any fuzzy images.

4K video in Lumix GH5 is stored in the 128 GB SD card which has enough space for 2 hours of footage. Not every competitor has this.

The Panasonic GH5 has an electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 3.68 million dots, as well as a 3-inch LCD display with 1.62 million dots. The touch screen of the camera is mounted on hinges and rotates in different directions, so that the user can manually set the focus at any angle.

Microphone, headphone and USB Type-C connectors are closely located. On the opposite side you will find two SD card slots. This is useful for storing large files.

So, it can be said that the Lumix GH5 boasts a high resolution, as well as excellent detailing and stabilization, allowing it to shoot very high-quality videos. If you add accessories such as an external microphone, a shoulder mount or a large monitor, you’ll get a top-end video camera.

This camera will be interesting even for professionals. We can see evidence of this in the video made by Jon Olsson where he tests the camera out in real life and reviews it in great detail:

Although this camera is very cool and powerful, it does admittedly have some issues. For example, the built-in microphone records sound well in the near range, but it is not so good when record outside as wind disrupts it. As with most of these cameras on this list, advanced users will need an external system to record sound.

Also, the price of the camera is higher than most of the competition. However, we still think it is worth it if you are an advanced user.

Panasonic has raised the bar and it will be difficult for other manufacturers to match it. The Lumix GH5 has several important functions for making videos to a professional standard. Therefore, it will be still very difficult for others to overtake this camera.

This is a premium device, that allows you to record video in the highest quality.

4. Canon EOS Rebel SL2 / EOS 200D – Most Balanced Solution

This camera is an updated version of the Canon EOS SL1. And has already become quite popular.

So how is it different from its predecessor and why is it so good?

Let’s find out.

First of all, the camera is very compact; the Canon SL2 is one of the smallest DSLRs in the world! The dimensions are 4.8 x 3.7 x 2.8 inches with a mass of 1.44 pounds.

It also has an APS-C format, as well as a very powerful DIGIC 7 processor which works very quickly with the device and is relatively simple to use.

You can use many different lenses, including professional ones: like the Canon 50 mm f 1.2 for $2000.

The camera also boasts a modern and powerful autofocus system – Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Thanks to this, as well as the touch monitor with the Touch AF and Touch Shutter functions, you will no longer have problems focusing your camera.

The screen, by the way, has a hinge mount. You can position it as you want. It can even be flipped over to take selfies which is great.

If we talk about the quality of the video, it has the classic Full HD 1080p, with a frequency of 60 fps. However, we already know that the processor is like that of professional models, and lenses can always be replaced with higher quality ones.

So, what does this leave us with?

Perfect image quality. Add to this slow motion, several video recording modes, the ability to connect a microphone – this camera is very successful.

It is worth noting that the device has a built-in Wi-Fi as well. This allows you not only to control the camera remotely, but also to easily share the footage in social networks.

Of course, the Canon SL2 has its drawbacks. First of all, there is no 4K shooting mode. But is it really important?

Powerful software will allow you to have a FullHD image of much higher quality than a 4K video from competitors.

What is not good though, is the low power of the built-in battery. Therefore, I recommend that you purchase 2-3 additional batteries or a battery pack.

Also, the interface is very simplified, so you may want a more advanced control. But let’s be honest: many do not need advanced features.

For its use, I recommend that you equip the Canon SL2 with additional accessories. As I said earlier, the device is powerful, and for the full potential to be revealed we advise you to purchase an external cannon microphone with fur protection from the wind, which is mounted on top. Also try a tripod and a couple of additional lenses – the latter can always be rented.

Since the previous version – Canon SL1 – has become quite popular, some YouTube – vloggers used this model for their videos.

The new SL2 model has a good review from the Think Media user:

Why do bloggers use this camera? Because, as I said, it is very compact, but at the same time sufficiently powerful. Why use a heavy machine if there is a lighter model?

I think the answer is obvious.

The verdict?

The Canon SL2 was very balanced. At low cost and miniature size, it combines all the functions necessary for most vloggers: a touchscreen display that can be turned in all directions, Full HD 60 fps, advanced autofocus and a fast processor. In combination with additional accessories you get great opportunities to create really cool videos.

5. Panasonic Lumix G85 / G80 – Advanced Stabilization System

Do you want a camera that looks cool whilst at the same time being easy to use with a relatively low price?

Well the Panasonic G85 may be for you. It is an update to the popular Lumix G7 camera. Despite the fact that the old model enjoys good popularity, the engineers decided to refine the previous version of the device, and they did well.

Let’s see why.

First of all, Panasonic added a 5-axis optical stabilizer that compensates for any movement of the arm. LUMIX lenses also have their own additional double stabilization.

What is the result?

Due to the combined stabilization, the recorded video will be very smooth – you will not be inconvenienced by any shaking you may encounter whilst filming. This will allow you to use the device in all conditions.

The Panasonic G85 has a cool mix of large disks, buttons (many of which are easily customizable) and a well-implemented touchscreen interface – which all create outstanding video control and provide you with tremendous convenience when recording your vlog. In any situation, all settings are close.

What else?

The camera records video in 4K format which is of very good quality.

Autofocus is a separate feature of the camera. When shooting video in 4K mode, the device automatically adjusts the focus to the nearest and furthest point. After that, the user can independently select the scene where he would like to see the focus point.

Thus, none of the required moments will leave you. Additionally, in 4K mode, you can use the “Bulk Save” function, which simply saves all the frames from the video – you can get the entire movie in still frames.

Panasonic G85 will help keep the image sharp when focusing manually. How does this work?

It’s simple.

Clear parts of the image are automatically highlighted, giving you the opportunity to not lose control of the picture.

Summarizing all of the above, this camera is suitable for advanced vloggers who love full control over their shooting.

Speaking about the design, the case is also assembled securely. Weather protection is a great addition. You do not need to worry too much about splashing or dirt on the G85.

We do however recommend that you purchase an additional battery for this camera as the battery life is not as long as you would probably want.

Let’s take a look at the DSLR Video Shooter review on this device.

The vlogger shows in this video how G85 shoots in practice, as well as some autofocus capabilities.

In my opinion, it looks very cool.

Among the shortcomings, we can note a rather small matrix according to modern standards. However, this does not affect the majority of the video being shot.

Summarizing, we can say that the Panasonic Lumix G85 is a decent camera for keen vloggers. Lightweight and waterproof, it is equipped with a mass of controls, a rotary touch screen and the ability to adjust for themselves.

Video quality is excellent; Autofocus is very reliable, multiple stabilization makes it easy to shoot with it. Simply put, this camera should easily meet the needs of most.

6. Sony Alpha a6300 – Device With a Unique Autofocus

You probably know that SONY produces some of the best lenses in the world. However, the company also a reputation for producing high quality cameras.

Are you wanting a professional camera which incomparable features that is still easy to travel with?

Then this model will suit you.

Sony a6300 is an evolution of the successful a6000 model, which still has not lost its own relevance.

Let’s see how it differs from its competitors.

First, Sony developed a special matrix for the a6300, using a special technology. This reduced the size, and most importantly, increased the speed of reading data.

The a6300 supports video recording with an extended range of light and color. The quality of the video output is several times better than that of competitors.

That’s not all.

The camera is equipped with a unique “4D Focus” system, which uses 425 points – a world record.

But this is only the beginning.

The fact is that the autofocus consists of more than 2000 points distributed over the entire surface of the sensor. By selecting a frame area, the camera simultaneously uses 425 points in this area, which allows you to accurately track any object.

If you shoot a flying flock of birds for example, then focusing the camera on a single one of them will not be a problem at all.

A little more about the video.

The camera supports shooting 4K 60 fps, and Full HD 120 fps. The range of shutter speeds when shooting video can be adjusted. This means that you can shoot successfully in both the daytime and at night.

An interesting fact for you is that the camera actually shoots 6K video, but the image is compressed to 4K in real time, which gives the highest quality image which is a very rare feature of cameras.

It is worth noting that the focus in video mode has a lot of settings. The camera does not just identify faces with a smile and focuses on them; in large portraits, it finds eyes and brings focus to the eyes – arguably the most important part of the face!

What’s even cooler?

You can register known faces in the menu and specify a priority person. Thus, the camera will not look at one person while another is present in the frame.

Let’s talk about using the device.

Sony a6300 is equipped with a swivel screen with a diagonal of 3 inches and a resolution of 1 million points. For shooting in bright sunlight, engineers added the “sunny weather” mode, which enhances the screen brightness a few steps above the maximum value that can be set manually.

It’s is designed, despite its compact size, with a very comfortable grip. Simply put, the camera is made so that it can be operated with one hand.

Pretty cool right?

Another interesting feature is that it charges from an USB. When the power is connected, the camera takes energy from an external source; after it is turned off, it switches to battery power. This means that by using a powerbank, you can shoot infinitely long scenes without changing the battery on the camera which will be especially helpful when shooting time-lapse scenes.

And so, what do popular Youtubers say about the a6300?

Let’s see.

There are drawbacks to the camera of course.

First of all, the screen rotates only vertically, and has no touch controls. Also missing is a headphone jack which some users may consider significant.

Furthermore, when shooting in 4K, with a long video recording, the camera can turn off due to overheating.

Summing this all up, we can say that this camera is one of the best on the market, and this model is ideal for anyone who wants to combine compactness, excellent image quality and 4k video.

7. Canon XA11 – Best For Capturing Cinema Clips

Do you want to record videos of an exceptional level? Have the quality of pictures in your vlogs, like that of television?

Well this camera, the Canon XA11, is used by the famous vlogger PewDiePie, who has 70 million subscribers.

And now you too can get closer to this success!

Let’s see why the XA11 model is unique in its domain.

Canon has huge experience in filmmaking; they have been producing professional equipment for Hollywood blockbusters for a very long time.

Recently, they made a budget device available to a wider circle of the population and it turned out pretty cool.

First, the Canon XA11 is equipped with a high-quality 20x optical zoom lens. The quality of the lenses used in it can be compared with professional movie cameras.

The built-in special filter system provides full color control in various lighting conditions.

Really great!

Secondly, the Canon XA11 is equipped with the most advanced HD CMOS pro-image sensor and a crazy fast DIGIC DV 4 processor.

All of these factors will ensure that the quality of the material is unlike any other.

Furthermore, an intelligent optical stabilization system along 5 axes will help to compensate for the slightest of shaking, which will be an advantage in situations requiring shooting in motion.

The device has two slots for SD memory cards. You can record Full HD video simultaneously in two formats: MP4 and AVCHD. After filling the memory, you can easily switch from one card to the second, using the “relay recording” function. You can also simultaneously record material on both cards, so as not to worry about its safety.

Very cool, right?

The camera records video using a special technology which requires little editing as the feature allows you to reveal more details in the dark areas of the frame and keep the balance in the bright areas.

This mode shows results similar to HDR (high dynamic range), while increasing the saturation and contrast of colors, and also does not allow overexposure in the frame.

This is a unique technology.

Also, the Canon XA11 is the absolute leader among others in slow motion mode. You will be able to shoot at speeds up to 1200 times faster than normal.

The design of the Canon XA11 is so well thought out that it has no real noticeable flaws. Everything is done for professional work. The general layout with the huge number of exciting buttons causes the eyes to rejoice.

The display is a convenient fully rotatable touchscreen with good resolution.

Let’s see what the professionals say about this device?

We see that the device is designed for professional operators. Everything is clear, cool and good quality.

Among the shortcomings, the Canon XA11 does not have 4K mode. On the other hand though, in full HD with this camera you will have no competitors at all.

However, additional accessories for such a device cost a lot, and it may take a long time to comprehend and learn to get the most out of all the settings.

However, it is worth it, believe me.

So, we can say that the Canon XA11 gives you full manual control, and is distinguished by professional specifications, including a number of core technologies inherited from higher-end cameras. The engineers managed to put all this in a lightweight camera with a clear interface.

If XA11 can be a great camera for the pros then for vlogging you will have no problems!

8. Canon 70D – Time Tested Camera

The Canon 70D may be the camera for you if you are looking to create professional looking videos and use several accessories.

Let’s see why the 70D is one of the most popular cameras for video blogging.

It has a huge number of features, high image quality and compatibility with various lenses.

Firstly, Canon has long been engaged in the production of professional equipment. This means that you can extend the functionality of this model with various accessories from the company.

Thus, you can turn a regular camera into a professional device and customize it to suit your needs and your type of content.

Secondly, this SLR camera is equipped with a processor, which is usually used only in professional models of the highest price category. With the purchase of this camera, you are getting the highest quality video at an affordable price.

With the 70D, Canon has successfully released a hybrid of an amateur and a professional camera. The model is easy to use, has a good quality of build and a large capacity battery (1800 mAh) which lasts for about 2 hours of video recording time.

What I also want to point out, is that the camera is quick to focus on a point. This factor is really important when shooting a video with moving points.

There is also a good touch-screen which can be flipped around. It also produces a good picture at a high ISO. Everything is close to professional model standards.

Let’s now discuss the design. The body is made of plastic. It looks quite big in comparison to the other cameras mentioned on this list, but honestly, we still think it’s cool. The whole design is very well thought out. The case itself is a very convenient shape. Therefore, Canon EOS 70D is still okay to hold with one hand, even with a heavy lens.

USB and HDMI connectors are located on the left side. In addition, you can connect an external microphone.

For best use, the Canon 70D should be equipped with a large number of accessories as it has great potential to unleash.

Well, what about battery life?

As I said, one charge allows you to record video for a couple of hours. Not a bad result, but there are cameras out there with a larger battery. So, if you want to shoot for a long time, manufacturers have developed an additional battery, which can be installed below.

I also recommend purchasing additional replacement batteries.

So, why do many YouTube users use this model for their blogs?

As mentioned earlier, the quality of the camera is close to professional models. Provides clear autofocus and fast processing.

So far, Canon is the market leader in the SLR camera, and the 70D is the most popular among them, it is already a classic. It is therefore not surprising that quite a few bloggers have chosen to shoot with it.

For example, CaseyNeistat, one of the most popular YouTube users with over 10 million subscribers believes that such a camera is the one of the best out there currently.

Although he had 5-6 Canon cameras, and he complains about the company as a whole, Casey takes the 70D with him to go to Cuba.

Let’s see a cool review on the Canon 70D:

You can see that through the addition of a pair of external microphones, stabilization system, high-quality lens, remote control. And now you have a professional device although obviously this will all cost a significant amount of money.

Other issues include that the camera only has one SD card slot. This means that the vlogger will have to think about how much space is left when shooting the video, but this is not catastrophic.

It is also worth noting that you must be careful with the touch screen as it is very sensitive. The design is not made for extreme sports.

Such models give the opportunity for their possibilities to be expanded and made suitable for the user’s specific shooting desires through the use of accessories and I’m sure the camera is definitely worth the money.

9. DJI Osmo Pocket – Professional Device In a Small Body

Every year, digital cameras are becoming smaller and smaller. Some of them even more compact than an iPhone.

Can such a miniature device have professional stabilization, and also record 4K 60 fps video?

My answer is yes.

Recently, DJI introduced one of the smallest cameras in the world – the Osmo Pocket. Just imagine the dimensions of the device: length 4 inches, width 1 inch and a weight of only 116 grams, simply unique!

This chocolate bar-sized camera is just as convenient to use as a smartphone. With its unrealistically small dimensions and a great price it gives other DSLRs a run for their money.

But let’s talk about everything in more detail.

The device has a 3-axis mechanical stabilizer. Such a system compensates for the most significant fluctuations more so than optical and electronic stabilization in action cameras, even better than GoPro Hero 7 Black. This makes it possible to create a smooth video without shaking.

DJI Osmo Pocket records 4K at 60 frames per second. I must say that the 4K mode is not present in half of the advanced vlogging cameras. Therefore, this device is pretty cool.

But that’s not all.

The DJI company is known for its drones, so many of the clever functions that are in the drones are implemented in the Osmo Pocket.

For example, ActiveTrack is a mode for tracking moving objects. FaceTrack – the intelligent system recognizes faces and holds them in the middle of the frame. FPV Mode – first-person view causes the camera to follow every movement, tilt and turn, shooting the video as what you see yourself. These features are really different and help it to stand out in the market.

When using the device it fits perfectly in the hand and does not slip due to the rough surface. The built-in touch screen and conveniently located control buttons for the most important functions are located next to the thumb, which provides quick access to settings. The screen is tiny, but the picture is still clearly visible.

It should be noted that you can attach your smartphone, making the display larger. Of course, you can also purchase many accessories that will significantly expand the capabilities of this device.

The miniature camera body is supplemented with a 875 mAh battery. This battery capacity is enough to record video lasting 140 minutes which is fairly good. You can obviously also purchase spare batteries.

Below you can see a review of this camera from The Tech Chap vlogger:

As you can see, the device proved itself very well.

First of all, the small size of the sensor means that when filming in the dark there will be some issues with the picture.

Also, the camera has no optical zoom which could be a problem for some and the accessories will need to be bought separately.

DJI Osmo Pocket is not just a camera and a stabilizer. It is one of the most successful solutions on the market for vlogging cameras!

The alternative would be a DSLR camera with a large stabilizer, purchased separately. But in this case, DJI Osmo Pocket has a huge advantage – incredible compactness.

If you want to record great videos, carry a camera in your pocket, remain inconspicuous, or simply do not want to carry a large device with you on a journey – this model will suit you perfectly.

10. GoPro Hero 7 Black – Best Camera For Outdoor Activities

I’ll be honest with you, I haven’t been known to be a fan of shooting vlogs with a GoPro action camera.

But then, why is this camera so popular?

First of all, it is worth noting the fact that this camera is an update of version 6 of GoPro. And if the previous model was not very successful, version 7 turned out to be pretty good.

Some say that GoPro Hero 7 Black is a work of art.

And why is that?

Well, first of all, the camera has the most advanced technical characteristics. For example, it has a very good video stabilization system called HyperSmooth.

This camera is pocket-sized and waterproof with very high-quality imagery and a huge assortment of mounting accessories.

It can be argued that the device turned out to be really powerful not only in the segment of action-cameras, but also among the cameras for general vlogging.

In addition to the main 2-inch touch screen, Hero 7 Black has a front display where you can always check important information.

If we’re talking about video quality, the camera can record 4K at 60 frames per second which is a good result but does not particularly stand out. However, don’t forget that this is an action camera (and one of the best) so will be better suited for certain environments.

You can also make online broadcasts, and all the footage you can immediately transfer to your smartphone to save them.

The display supports landscape and portrait orientation which is useful for shooting vertical clips or photos for Instagram.

The camera is also waterproof unlike many other models. It can be immersed to a depth of 10 meters, and this is without a waterproof case! Therefore, you can swim in the sea with your GoPro in your hand.

In general, this is the best model for extreme sports.

Wide software functionality, as well as many additional accessories are included. All this makes the camera an ideal tool for shooting extreme videos and creating colorful photos.

The combination of these features makes the camera very interesting.

Now to speak about the design. The color of the device is black and the plastic case is covered with a layer of soft rubber.

On the right is the on / off button, on top of the camera is a record button, at the bottom is a special slot with a battery and a MicroSD memory card. On the left side, you can find USB Type-C for charging and connecting to a computer, as well as micro HDMI for streaming.

Battery life: Its capacity is 1220 mAh. The battery is removable, as I mentioned earlier.

When recording video in Full HD at 30 frames per second, the camera works for an hour and a half. Not bad, but when using 4K 60 frames per second GoPro states it will work for 45 minutes, but in fact it can only be used for 35 minutes, as the device heats up too much. Of course, this flaw is not fatal. And you can solve this problem by buying a few spare batteries, but this requires more spending.

Now let’s see what the vloggers have to say:

A pretty good video review of this camera is on the channel Engadget. He also compares the quality of the video with Hero 6 Black:

“…Is it a good vlogging camera though? It’s a really good device. This is the most notable thing about the Hypersmooth,”

Why is GoPro Hero 7 Black better than Hero 6?

Regarding the design and size, I must say that there are no differences. The body is almost the same.

However, in terms of image stabilization with GoPro Hero 7 Black you can completely forget about the video shaking and they have improved massively upon this since 5.

From the camera review I provided above, it is clear that the image quality is now much better. It has a new sensor, and the internal electronics received an update. Thanks to this, your videos will become even more exciting.

Another significant improvement to GoPro Hero 7 Black compared to Hero 6 Black is the live stream. Previously, it was also possible to publish a video shot on GoPro Hero 6 on the Internet, but it took a lot of time. Now it’s as easy as launching the GoPro app on your smartphone, all you have to do is press a button.

The last difference I’d like to dwell on is the appearance of the TimeWarp feature in GoPro Hero 7. Before, when you wanted to shoot while driving, it was a bit risky. TimeWarp solves this problem. If you know what Hyperlapse is on Instagram, it will be easy for you to understand this new GoPro feature.

What do we have in the end?

1. Design: both models are the same except for small details.

2. Image Stabilization: Greatly improved on Hero 7 Black. Now you can shoot without special stabilizer holders, improving the quality of the video.

3. Streaming: the live broadcast in Hero 7 Black makes it easier to download videos to the Internet compared to Hero 6.

4. TimeWarp feature.

However, issues include that the new stabilization is not available in 4K 60 frames per second.

Also, the sound is not recorded in the best quality. But the device has the ability to connect an external microphone.

The HyperSmooth is insanely good, it’s the best I’ve ever seen, and it opens up endless opportunities for GoPro to create video blogs for YouTube.

Stabilization makes it easy to shoot professional videos without any mechanical accessories. This allows you to use GoPro for more scenes and situations.

In addition, this means that Hero 7 is lighter than any other camera on the market, and let’s not forget that GoPro is suitable for live broadcasts.

You can use the GoPro Hero 7 Black as a versatile camcorder. Yes, you can use it for extreme sports, but you can equally use it for shooting a regular video blog.

For a vlogger, GoPro Hero7 offers the buyer more than any other device. This device is perhaps the most successful release of all time. And I would say that despite my previous reservations about the company the camera they created here is the best universal camera of 2019.

Cameras For YouTube Buying Guide

How we chose our selection of Vlogging Cameras

YouTube blogging devices are all designed for different purposes. You may want a camera that produces Hollywood-like video quality or in other, extreme situations, such as vlogging from a boat, you will need a shockproof and waterproof case. We chose cameras with the highest build quality, and also identified in the reviews unique cameras that are suitable for more irregular filming.

A huge range of companies are now producing top-standard vlogging cameras. Among them are both global giants with vast experience, and smaller, lesser-known producers – for example, DJI. Engineers are constantly improving the capabilities of manufactured devices. And what is most interesting is that many young companies produce devices with more interesting features than large companies. Seriously, sometimes small brands make real masterpieces. On my list are the most interesting solutions from relatively new manufacturers, as well as the most successful devices from well-known companies.

For most people often the most important factor in their purchase is a good price / quality ratio. However, not everything is as simple as it seems. Devices for vlogging are divided into 3 different price categories. The first includes premium solutions – these are the most powerful options on the market. The second is the average price, a balanced version. The last category is budget cameras, they are the cheapest. Each group is designed for specific vloggers, with different goals and objectives. I collected for you the most successful cameras in terms of price / quality ratio, and also selected cameras from all 3 categories, with a detailed explanation of each. I am sure you will make the right choice.

Before compiling the final sheet, I studied professional reviews for a long time. In them, experts talk in detail about the device, showing its strengths and weaknesses. I also interviewed my vlogging friends. They spoke about some of the devices and allowed me to test them personally. In addition, I took the time to study user reviews. All these actions helped me to make for you a comprehensive and high-quality list of the best cameras for YouTube vlogging in 2019.

Each camera has its own unique features. However, when studying a product, the user pays a lot of attention to the set of technical characteristics. You need to understand what your device is capable of; what result it can produce. Before doing reviews, I compiled a list of what should be most important when choosing a device. It includes such parameters as the processor, video quality, efficiency, performance, availability of accessories, and so on. My detailed reviews will make it easy for you to choose the most successful model for your needs.

Deciding on a budget

How much money are you prepared to spend? Perhaps this is the most important issue when choosing a camera for YouTube vlogging.

The cost of the device plays a significant role. There are a huge number of devices on the market, which vary greatly in price; from 300 to 1500 dollars. Professional-style camcorders are generally not sold for less than $ 1,000; but more budget friendly models do still have very good video quality for everyday shooting. Each vlogger is looking for a camera that, for a certain amount, will contain the maximum possibilities.

However, before you decide on the price, you need to understand what you are aiming for. Below, I have gathered all the types of cameras for vlogging.

After reading this list, you will get a more detailed picture of the market.

Types of vlogging cameras

1. Digital Single-Lens Reflex Cameras (DSLRs)

 Digital Single-Lens Reflex Cameras

The basis of this type of camera is a mirror that displays the image on the display in real time. It should be said that such cameras have the largest sensor on the market. This feature gives you a great picture quality in all conditions.

Devices of this type have long been recognized in the world of photographers. They record high-quality video even in poor light, and on the finished image you get clear and realistic colors. Also, DSLR can be equipped with professional accessories, and lenses can be replaced. You can turn an ordinary camera into a high-end device.

This type of camera is suitable for those who desire high-quality images and may regularly be shooting at night, as well as those that enjoy and know how to use camera accessories.

Our selection: Canon 70D

– Excellent picture quality

– Good picture in low light

– Very nice, realistic and clear colors on the video

– The possibility of upgrading your device through accessories

– Rather large camera sizes

–  High quality lenses and accessories are expensive

2. Mirrorless Cameras

Mirrorless Cameras

These cameras are very similar to DSLR models, only smaller in size. I believe that these devices are a technological breakthrough.

Because engineers have combined a small package with the best video quality on the market. I must say that because of this, DSLR cameras are gradually being squeezed out of the market, since this technology is becoming obsolete. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the market develops.

Mirrorless cameras are much smaller than DSLR cameras, thus they also weigh a lot less.

The manufacturer has removed some unnecessary functions, as well as some of the controls. This allows you to fit the same large sensor in a more compact body. Mirrorless cameras are still expensive, especially if there is a full frame sensor.

Like the DSLR models, these cameras can also be used and improved upon with a variety of accessories.

If the size of the device is very important to you, then we recommend the mirrorless type of cameras. Such a device is suitable for those who want to carry less with them – but at the same time get a very good picture. For example, a Mirrorless Camera will appeal to someone who travels a lot to different cities.

Our selection: Canon EOS M50

Premium selection: Panasonic GH5

– Excellent quality of shooting in poor lighting

– Clean and realistic colors on video

– Smaller body than DSLR

– Large lens makes device difficult to hold

– Settings not that advanced

3. Point and Shoots

Point and Shoots Cameras

These cameras have a very small body, but a good picture, often not inferior in quality to the devices of the first two types. Yes, the sensor is smaller here. But it still has a good size – about one inch diagonally.

In such devices it is impossible to replace the lens. Often engineers build a large zoom feature into these compact cameras. This will be useful for travellers who like to shoot far away objects. These cameras are also relatively light weight.

Point and Shoots cameras are suitable for those who may want to remain inconspicuous and are not interested in additional accessories or lenses. They are appropriate for someone who appreciates convenience, compactness and ease of use – and at the same time want to get a cool video. For travellers who are not too demanding of picture quality in low light, this camera fits just perfectly.

Our selection: Canon G7X Mark II

– Compact device dimensions

– Ease of use

– Lens has large magnification

– Some issues in low light

– Inability to change lens

– Often you cannot use it with accessories

4. Action Cameras

Action Cameras

These devices are even smaller than all those previously mentioned. Their sensor is also small, but in good lighting conditions the video quality is still very good, and the viewing angle of the lens is almost 180 degrees.

However, you should understand that such a camera is created for certain tasks.

These devices have been designed with protected to withstand the impact of external influences. All action cameras have a very durable case that protects it from the ingress of excess dust and moisture. You can safely dive with it under the water or ride a mountain bike without fear. Often these devices also come with an extra protective case which provides even more protection.

This type of camera is perfect for those involved in extreme sports. Sturdy case, compact size, the ability to mount anywhere – all this makes action devices the most versatile type of all. You can forget about your device and fully immerse yourself in the experience. This camera can also be used by lifestyle vloggers as the picture quality is still good and the camera is very adaptable.

Our selection: GoPro Hero 7 Black

– The strongest body of all cameras

– Very wide viewing angle

– Ability to mount the device

– Wide selection of accessories

– Relatively bad video quality in low light

– Often need to buy spare batteries

5. Camcorders

So why does PewDiePie with an audience of 80 million subscribers use the Canon XA11? Is this the secret of his success?

Well, if you buy a camcorder, then you need to know what you are doing.

Such a camera is incredibly powerful, but its potential is very difficult to unleash as it has a lot of different settings. Therefore, it will be difficult for a beginner to create a really cool video.

But, if you are already well versed in this field then feel free to try out this type of camera. Camcorders use technologies from professional film devices – you will have no competitors at all. Fantastic picture quality, full control over the shooting, unrealistic possibilities for processing. This is the Ferrari in the world of cameras.

These cameras are suitable for professionals, and for those who really emphasise the quality of the video. This is a premium machine.

Our selection: Canon XA11

– Fantastic video quality

– Huge amount of settings

– Professional film technology

– Large device sizes

– Accessories are very expensive

– Expensive

6. Smartphones

Such a device is the most affordable on the market. Moreover, there is a very large selection available.

A huge plus of using smartphones is the ability to instantly share your videos on social networks. On the device, everything is all on there ready – the application for processing, the instant messengers, the browser and the mobile network. In short, it is a highly efficient type of camera for vlogging.

However, I did not include smartphones in the review.

Why so?

The quality of the video leaves much to be desired. Still, do not forget that the smartphone is a very compact device, and the sensor there is extremely small. Which gives you a lot of noise in low light. Yes, on a sunny day, you can record good vlogs, and even in 4K format.

However, is it worth it?

I think if you are wanting to vlog seriously you will need a more developed camera.

Another very big minus is that the battery runs out very quickly. Seriously, sometimes in cold weather it is gone after only 15-20 minutes. This, of course, is helped by the purchase of a powerbank but still, I think a proper camera would be better.

However, the iPhone XS Max shoots extremely high-quality videos and has a decent battery life. In addition, you can easily share your videos on social networks. Obviously though, this device is Apple’s flagship and is certainly not cheap.

Summing up, you can always start your experience in the world of YouTube with your smartphone. I believe that such an investment is the simplest and cheapest. You probably already have a smartphone and can try yourself. In any case, the final choice is yours.

Our selection: iPhone XS Max

– Usually a relatively low price

– Can instantly upload videos to social networks

– Thin body with big display

– Low battery life

Identifying your requirements

The weight of the camera

So, we come to the most important.

What are your goals and objectives in the world of vlogging? What kind of videos are you going to create? Now that you know all the available types of cameras, it should be very easy to make the best choice for your desired vlog. I will now outline for you some of the most popular types of vlogs.

Lifestyle vlogs

Shooting your everyday life is the most affordable form of vlog as in theory it requires little effort. However, there will be a lot of competition. You need to be original when creating your videos.

Pay attention to universal devices like Point and Shoots Cameras. This will give you a good video, and at the same time compactness. Also, DSLR, Mirrorless Cameras, Action Cameras and of course your smartphone will all be suitable for creating these standard videos.

It all depends on your goals and objectives in the world of lifestyle.

Travel vlogs

When traveling long journeys you will require a light camera possessing a long battery life, ideally with an ability to zoom in far. It will be important for you not to miss a special moment.

In this case, you can use either Mirrorless cameras or Point and Shoot devices. They have a convenient and compact body, as well as often a good optical zoom. And the battery in them is designed for long use.

Action vlogs

Riding a mountain bike, jumping into a lake, snowboarding – we all understand that action cameras would be perfect here. Excellent protection from external influences, the ability to mount on any surface, with a very small and lightweight body – such cameras are specifically designed for outdoor activities.

Studio vlogs

Shooting indoors often requires a lot of accessories. Also, there are no requirements for the size of the device – but the video quality should remain high.

DSLR Cameras, Mirrorless Cameras, or Camcoders will be excellent helpers for such a vlog. Other devices will not cope with this task.

Beauty vlogs

For beauty gurus who demonstrate how to do makeup, the quality of the video is very important. I advise you to look at the Mirrorless Cameras – such cameras will give you a good picture, but at the same time simple operation and compactness. Point and Shoot models, such as the Canon G7X Mark II, will be an excellent solution.

It is worth saying that for studio and beauty vloggers the right light is very important. At the bottom of the review I have given a more detailed explanation on this as well as a detailed division of the cameras according to the budget. First you must fully understand what you need.

Features to look in

Video quality

Video quality. Nuances

At the moment, there is a lot of competition in the vlogging world. To get ahead of the competition you need to have a video that is of high quality. Below, I have outlined for you the main points in video quality.

This refers to how sharp the image is i.e. how many pixels. To speak simply, cameras that use 1080p are the most advanced.

With regard 4K, experts say that the amount of content in 4K is growing every day. Therefore, this format is very profitable. However, it is not suitable for every type of vlog.

FPS is the frame rate- the frequency at which consecutive images (frames) appear on a display.

The higher the frame rate the sharper the image. A really high frame rate may create too sharp an image, but it is your choice. For a comparison, movies are shot and displayed at 24fps.

With quick moving scenes, autofocus must be fast and accurate. Fortunately, almost all cameras now have advanced focusing, which even a novice can use. Separately, it is worth noting that some devices can even remember individual faces and automatically focus on them. SONY devices, in particular, have the best and most advanced autofocus on the market.

Also, it must be said that the DJI Osmo Pocket keeps track of faces very well even when moving which is really cool.

It’s all very simple. Either you have the option of changing the optics, or the lens is permanently built-in.

However, we must understand that everything has its pros and cons. The DSLRs are able to alternate lenses. Of course though, they are quite expensive and heavy which may put many people off. If you are new to the world of vlogging, I recommend that you purchase a 50 mm lens – which will last you a very long time. This is the best budget solution.

However, if you have a built-in universal lens, then it will be versatile and you won’t have to worry about buying another.

Size of the Sensor

As I wrote above, the largest sensor size is in the DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras. The larger the matrix of the camera, the larger the size of one pixel. This gives you the most realistic, high-quality picture. In addition, a large sensor requires a good processor to process the material.

It is worth noting that a large pixel size is less susceptible to electrical impulses. Simply put, in low light conditions the picture will still be good.

If image quality is so important to you, then we recommend these types of cameras as well as the more expensive Camcorders.

Auto mode

Having automatic manual settings gives a very big advantage for a beginner vlogger. In this mode you don’t need to control the camera settings, you can focus on your shooting.

Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)

Do not be afraid of this complex term.

Optical image stabilization is a special mechanism that compensates for any shakiness during shooting. Almost all manufacturers value the quality of this feature and stabilization is already built into their cameras. However, there are types of devices that have gone further. These are DSLR Cameras and Mirrorless. Not only do they often have a built-in stabilizer, they also contain their own, special stabilizing system. This combination gives you the ability to record absolutely smooth videos, in any situation.

If you have a built-in lens, they are almost always equipped with an OIS system. Therefore, do not worry at all.

However, in addition to optical stabilization, there is still such a thing as an additional stabilizer which I will tell you more about later.

Zooming quality

It is important not to miss significant points when shooting. Sometimes objects are far away, and you have to zoom in. It is necessary to consider only the optical zoom, because the digital quality reduces the final image.

I must say that in Mirrorless Cameras, as well as in some Point and Shoots Cameras, the zoom is implemented in the best possible way. No wonder – after all such devices are intended for universal situations. Therefore, they have the widest range of focal lengths. Therefore, I think this is a very good option for most vloggers.

If we talk about cameras that are able to use interchangeable lenses, for a high-quality large zoom it will obviously cost you more. Therefore, if this aspect is really important to you, have a look at Mirrorless devices.

Sound. External microphone

Conventional cameras often perform as well as semi-professional ones in terms of image quality, but unfortunately, they can’t record high-quality sound.

Therefore, if you are still serious about your vlog, I recommend that you purchase an external microphone.

However, everything is not so simple. It depends on what you are doing in your vlogs. If you are vlogging outside, recording music, interviewing then I think it is best to purchase a high-quality external microphone. It is ideal for DSLR, Mirrorless Cameras, as well as for Camcoders. For Action Cameras, there is also an external microphone, but it will not always be convenient.

Nowadays, there are a lot of external microphones available on the market, which guarantee a pure audio.

We will go over the main types of microphones that exist on the market.

Types of Mics for Vloggers

Lapel Mics: Such microphones are good to use in most average situations where there are no difficult shooting conditions. They will suit most of the daily vloggers.

Shotgun Mics: These devices give you very high quality and directional sound. In addition, a protective cover can easily be place on it thus protecting it from the wind. These microphones are ideal for interviews, as well as for shooting in difficult weather conditions.

Condenser Mics: Simply put, these are studio microphones. They give you the coolest sound quality thanks to a special technology. But such devices cann’t be taken on a trip. Therefore, this type is ideal for an indoor studio.

I prepared a list of the best microphones available in 2019.

Best Microphones for YouTube

Blue Snowball iCE: the best microphone for singers, easy to install.

Fifine Metal Condenser Recording Microphone: a great solution for a laptop or home studio.

Neewer NW-700 Professional Studio: the perfect studio option.

Rode VideoMic with Fuzzy Windjammer Kit: the coolest directional microphone for vlogging.

Shure VP83F LensHopper: one of the best solutions on the market for DSLR cameras.

I will now go over some important aspects you need to consider before purchasing.

I believe the ideal weight can be considered 1.3-1.7 pounds as these are convenient to use. Obviously the bigger the camera the larger the weight and in some instances this will be very important e.g. recording whilst downhill skiing. As mentioned before, it all depends on your videos.

Battery life

For many cameras, the built-in battery is not super powerful. Battery life will not be very long meaning you are only going to be able to record a few hours of video. Therefore, I strongly advise you to buy a couple of extra batteries. This simple action will solve many problems. Your video can end at any time, so take care of this issue.

All cameras mentioned on the list are equipped with this. The Wi-Fi function allows you to transfer the captured video without wires, and also gives you the ability to easily control the camera remotely, for example, using a smartphone. Everything is pretty simple and understandable.

If you are filming in harsh weather conditions, for example where there will be snow, water, dirt or dust your camera will need to be protected. Only action cameras are suitable for such tasks. Other options should not be considered.

Why am I so sure of this?

It’s simple; other types of devices are not made as strong and waterproof as action devices. In addition, covers, for example, on the DSLR or Mirrorless are very expensive.

Flip out screen

Cameras with a flip screen have a big advantage to make comfortable shooting.

This feature is very important to control the shooting and is very useful for those who shoot their videos alone as you don’t have to ask someone to constantly tune your camera. Another advantage is that you can get good scene control from a variety of different positions – you can turn the flip display in any direction.

Accessories. Additions to the camera

The issue of lighting plays a big role in shooting your vlogs as it really impacts upon the quality. Many people will know what lighting is best, but I will say a few words for beginners.

For a professional looking video additional equipment to lighten the background as well as your face will be needed. Here are ideally suited 2 light sources from different sides:

Julius Studio Photo Video Studio

This is an excellent and universal solution for most loggers. Rich equipment, good features – and all at a reasonable price.

This accessory will hold the camera up thus allowing your camera to free-stand as you film.

This additional accessory will help you get a smooth picture. Although it can be purchased separately, in some devices, for example, in the DJI Osmo Pocket, it already exists. This feature will be very useful to those who like to shoot videos whilst riding bikes for example. Although it can be large in size it drastically will improve the video’s quality.

Additional batteries

It always seems to happen that your camera loses charge at the most important moment. Everyone understands that a long battery life is really beneficial. In general, my advice is to buy only original batteries and beware of counterfeits. This is because since inside the battery there is a chip that monitors the battery’s operation and charging and it’s better to take all this from a good and reliable manufacturer.

It is also recommended that you choose a camera that can charge via USB, as this allows you to charge it whilst using it outside through a power bank.

Memory card

This is perhaps the most important accessory. Without a memory card, you can’t shoot a video. Modern DSLRs do not have internal memory (only a memory buffer for temporary video storage).

What kind of card should I get?

The main differences between memory cards is the amount of storage they hold. It makes no sense to buy media over 64 GB for cameras that do not write 4K video. The optimal size is just 64 GB.

The main types of media: SD, SDHC, SDXC. The size of the SD memory includes up to 4 GB, SDHC – up to 32 GB, and SDXC – more than 32 GB. In any case, focus on the micro SDXC, with a capacity of 64 GB or more. I want to add that the higher the class of the card, the faster the recording of information. I recommend choosing a grade 10.

However, even faster cards are now available: UHS Speed U1 / U3 – up to 5 times higher than class 10.

We recommend you a microSDXC UHS Speed U3 memory card. It is advisable to choose proven manufacturers.

Bag or backpack

This accessory is designed to protect the camera from external influences and help you carry it with ease. If you already have a backpack, so I’m pretty sure you do not neet it.

Which cameras do YouTubers use?

When I first selected the models for this review, I trawled through Youtube and after a lot of work, I identified 4 of the most popular and successful options. Due to the fact that these models are used by very famous vloggers they can be taken very seriously. I will now discuss some of the most popular vloggers who use these camera types.

Canon Powershot G7X Mark II – Zoella (11m subscribers)

This is a very small device with excellent shooting quality and some of its main advantages are its easy handling and good compactness. Zoella has long been using this device for her beauty vlogs and the quality is good. I personally like its compact design. For those who are concerned about having a small sized camera, this will be good for you.

Canon 70D – Casey Niestat (10m subscribers)

The camera is already quite old, but it is still very popular which I believe is down to its simplicity. This camera is the most successful among DSLR devices which, as I have explained, allows users to expand its potential through the purchase of additional accessories. This unit can be easily upgraded. Buy an external microphone, some lenses, a remote control – and you will have a movie camera. Cool, right?

Reliable case, excellent management, professional video capabilities. I think this is the most advanced choice up to $ 1,000.

Canon XA11 – PewDiePie (82m subscribers)

The most popular YouTube vlogger uses a professional device. The highest image quality, extensive management capabilities, many settings, a large number of accessories. This camera is a hybrid of a professional camera and a device for vloggers. Therefore, in the near future, it will have no competitors in the market. We can say that this camera is the top of our list. But you need to know how to use this device. Therefore, we do not recommend it for beginners.

Here we come to the final part of our guide.

I tried to give you as much information as possible for you to make an informed decision.

All that’s left is for you to determine your budget. Below are the 3 price categories with the best camera in each.

Let’s take a look!

Best Cameras for YouTube (over $ 1,000)

If you are prepared to invest in a highly developed device for the future then you should be looking at this price category. Cameras for such a price usually have professional capabilities that are inaccessible to most ordinary devices. Also, they often come with important accessories, such as an external microphone.

This category includes either camcorders or premium devices of other types.

Our selection: Panasonic GH5

Good Cameras for YouTube ($ 500 – $ 1,000)

This type of device combines professional quality shooting and a reasonable price. You get great features and control. At the same time, the video will be beautiful, and the size will not be as big as that of expensive devices. Simply put, such cameras have the best price / quality ratio.

This is a balanced solution among vlogging devices.

Our selection: Canon EOS M50, Panasonic Lumix G85, Canon Powershot GT7 X Mark II

Inexpensive Cameras for YouTube (under $ 500)

So, you are just starting your journey in to the vlogging world. You do not want to spend a lot of money on the device? Then you should pay attention to the cheapest models. They do not require you to purchase additional accessories, and the quality of the video will be suitable for any beginner vlogger. These types of cameras will allow you to understand what choice is appropriate for you when or if you choose to buy a more expensive model, in other words, acting as a trial period.

Our Choice: GoPro Hero 7 Black

Which factors are most important to consider?

There are a lot of factors. Price, video quality, control, as well as the ability to connect external accessories are some of the main ones.

What kind of cameras do most Youtube vloggers use?

Most vloggers understand what they need, and try to get the most out of one camera. DSLR is now the most popular type of device. Mirrorless Cameras are also often used, but these are still up-and-coming in the market. It is worth adding that often DSLR devices complement a variety of accessories in order to fully unlock its potential.

How do I setup my camera for vlogging?

For beginners, I’ll say that making a cool setup for your video is easy. You only need a camera, an external microphone, a good tripod and a remote control. You can also buy additional lighting if you are shooting in a studio.

Should I use 4k? Why?

Although 4K video format is less common right now, it has a great future. In this format, the frames are sharper and clearer. And in general, 4K mode shows itself better than 1080p. Also, when viewed on a large TV, you will have a picture that is much better. Overall, it’s better to take a camera with 4K recording capability and try it yourself.

Can I use action cameras for Youtube videos?

It should be said that now there are a lot of different vlogs out there where action cameras are used. Moreover, you should understand that in extreme and active sports, which many people do, you need this type of device. As we have previously written, such cameras can perfectly cope with the recording of complex video. Therefore, our answer is yes, you can.

What do I need to edit my videos?

The answer here is really that it depends! Currently, there are a large selection of programs. However, I can advise Final Cut on a MacBook. This is one of the most balanced video processing software. You can also note Sony Vegas Pro and Adobe Premier Pro. However, they are expensive, so you can decide for yourself.

What is the best camera for vlogging and photography?

In 2019, people took more photographs per minute than in the whole 20th century. There have been consistent technological advancements and now, even on a budget it’s possible to shoot excellent content. The aim of my list was to present to you the best cameras available now. Bearing in mind they are all suited for different tasks, no matter what you want there’ll be something for you here!
